Core Sample (remix) or Reishi Log
A remix of the 2014 “Core Sample “ of studio debris shown here at the Sean Christopher Gallery during Webb’s solo exhibition, ditched, December 2014 - January 2015. This version is made up of Webb’s old works on paper- drawings, meeting notes, research, tax returns, etc. inoculated with Reishi Mushroom mycelium. Reishi mushroom or Ganoderma lucidum, is one of the most sacred and prized mushrooms. It is known as the “Mother of Mushrooms”, the “Divine mushroom”, and the “Mushroom of immortality”. There are records of it being used as medicine for the past 4,000 years. It has appeared in Taoist art, symbolizing good health and luck since the 1400s. The mushroom sculpture should begin fruiting before the end of the exhibition on August 9.
